Location information for Merthyr Tydfil

Mansfield is the largest town in Nottinghamsrental, located in the valley of the River Maun surrounded by steep hills. Home to around 65,000 inhabitant, the town is a mix of history and modernity, with its spacious central market square contrasting with the surrounding commercial area including the new shopping mall. Urban regeneration projects are the buzz-word at present for the local administration.

Ground transportation in the area is good, but cheap car rental in Mansfield is still the preferred option for exploring the region, including nearby Sherwood Forest, famous for its connection with Robin of Locksley, better known as Robin Hood, a medieval version of modern day pro-reform activists who took from the rich to give to the poor.

As well as a few notable heritage buildings and its market square, Mansfield has an interesting, award-winning museum, located just off the square along with several popular music venues as well as traditional pubs and shopping facilities. Sherwood Forest is a remnant of the vast woodlands which covered middle England for much of recorded history, now reduced to just under two square miles.

The forest, with its few remaining ancient English oaks including the 800-year old Major Oak, is still regarded as royal, with its former glory once used as a hunting ground for English kings and their nobles. Many walks, trails and other activities have been set up by the Forestry Commission. Car rental in Mansfield gives easy access to Sherwood as well as other places of interest.

One event for which visitors to the town won’t need car rental in Mansfield is the annual Summer in the Streets festival, held between June and August. All varieties of public events take place all over town, with the highlight being the Party in the Park, the modern equivalent of the medieval town fair.
