Chepest car hire ever.

I booked with great ease on the net. The price was so wonderful. I collected the car late at night in Portugal, but there were no hiccups, and the site is right next door to the airport. We had a brand new car with only 1000 kms on the clock. We used it very little, as I don't go on holiday in order to drive, but it was there for us to use for shopping and going to the beach. I delivered the car back, and this was a totally hassle -free experience. I would certainly book car hire again this way..thank you.

Faro car hire

Picked Renault Clio up at Faro Airport. Car was about 3 years old with a number of bodywork scratches. These were noted on the sign-off form. Staff provided a break-down phone number, which made us a bit nervous, but the car had no mechanical problems during the 11 days we had it. One thing to note, we used the A22 toll road to Albufeira which should have cost around 2 Euro, but when I went to pay at a local petrol station, I was told the road toll system had 15 Euros outstanding against our reg number. When I presented the 15 Euro receipt at the airport, the car hire rep said the toll was against whoever had the car before me and I should not have paid it. I think 121 should have settled all tolls before supplying the car to me - they did not accept responsibility.

Beat the queue

Apart from the long wait to get my car at Faro (there were a lot of incoming flights at the time) everything was great. Nice car (Seat Ibiza). On my return everything went very smoothly and my credit card blanks were handed back without my asking.

Untold hidden extras!

The general price was very cheap and I have used the company before. Easy to book and very clear, easy pick up and drop off. Car small but OK for basic price paid. HOWEVER this year they had added extra costs that I wash;t aware of and couldn't get out of on pick up. 20 Euros for toll costs. Had to pay 90 Euros up front for a full tank of petrol and told tank is full but bring back empty. I would never have used a full tank and then feel doubly ripped off at paying full price for petrol not used! So with another 110 Euros on top my cheap car hire price didn't feel so cheap anymore and on further website investigation I could have got a better car through another company

Cael - very impressive car hire experience

The rep met me in the coffee shop at Faro airport as arranged. I was given an upgraded at no extra cost to a higher spec vehicle than ordered. Full tank of fuel and absolutely no issues. Would definitely use this company again.

great experience

We picked up the car late at Faro airport, the staff were very helpful. The VW Polo was a great car and seemed to run for ever on the tank of diesel. The staff were pleasant and efficient on the drop off.

A very positive experience!

The booking process was easy and clear, and confirmation text and emails followed quickly. At Madeira Airport we were obviously expected and the pick up was quick and we were on our way to our hotel in no time. The car performed much better than the same model we hired differently last year in the same venue but with another company, so well done Rodavante. Drop off was just as easy, quick and friendly.

Could be better

No indication until booking completed of where car will be collected or returned. I like this to be at the airport not a remote location which is what happened. Getting shuttle buses takes time. Fuel policy is a bit of a rip off. Instead of taking and returning car full you get charged for a full tank as an extra and expected to return the car empty. Last twice I have reurned the car half full who his am extra 50 euro. This is a hidden extra which I hate . Read the small print

The Good and Bad Bits

I was very impressed with the standard of car I rented. It was in excellent condition and the price was probably the best on the market for value. I was not impressed with the service on arrival at Faro Airport as it took me over half an hour to find the Interent representative and when I did and was finally transported to collect the car I found that I was in a queue of about 15 waiting for a car. My turn took just on 2 hours before I was at the head of the queue which I was not very happy about as I had left my wife and disabled son at the airport as he cannot walkand is wheelchair bound and could not use the transport provided to take us to collect the car. One other item I am very unhappy about is that if you are hiring a car in excess of 5days the you are charged for a full tank of fuel and expected to return the car empty. As it was I returned the car with half tank as my mileage was not great during my stay, hence I was out of pocket by approximately £50. Therefore, I will have to take that into account next time I hire and it may be cheaper for me to hire from another company. I frequently go to Faro so although the original costs are low with 121 taking the fuel into account it may not be so in the longer term.

Airauto Portugal

Booked a car through 121carhire.com for my trip to Portugal and received a voucher for Airauto, the pick up was quite a trek from arrivals to P4 and there was only 1 person serving so a very long line formed with no seats or shade from the 35deg. Quite a variance in car quality mine had 63,000k on the clock and was a little damaged, saying this it ran well and i had no issues during my 600k travelled. A note to the wise is that when returning Airauto operate out the back of a van and do not arrive on site until 8am, there is also now the toll charge on the A22 which needs to be paid at the post office which would prove difficult if using the A22 to return the car early on a Saturday, this applies to all rental companies not just airauto. All in all the experience was fine, good price, no annoying extras and no over the top charge for a tank of fuel, you returned with as much fuel as was in the tank when you picked it up.

Good value for money

Good value for money, good car, great price and no problems apart from charging me for excess insurance when I stated I did not require it. Was refunded when I figured out how to complain.

Cheap but did the job!

We rented a vehicle through 121carhire but in my naivety I was shocked when I saw that our actual rental was through a company called Travel Rent based in car park 4 of Faro airport. Reviews were mixed and so I was somewhat nervous, this being my first time hiring a car. My fears were unfounded, while we had to wait about 40 minutes to collect the car (due to a long queue) the car itself was satisfactory and we were able to return it without any problems or delay. Given the extraordinary cheap price I would say it was a great experience.

Does what it says on the tin but beware M/Way tolls!

Bit of a walk but Faro airport is being refurbished. Painless check, in car was excellent. Return equally painless. Point of note is that Portugal has a crazy Motorwat toll system. There are ANPR points which automatically charge your journey to the car, these tolls then need to be paid at a post office or paper shop within 5 days BUT they can only be paid 2 days after the journey! Hire cars should be exempt of have some other system in place as if you use the motorway to the airport there is no way to pay! Equally if you go to to pay your fees you may well get hit for the previous rental toll charges, therefore ensure you give your date of arrival when you pay initially. Non of of this was clearly explained at collection. Otherwise a good experience.

Setúbal is a Portuguese city near Lisbon. The city itself isn't the most exciting place, but there is a huge amount to see and do in nearby areas. Given that most tourists visiting Setúbal will need to do some traveling, cheap car rental in Setubal Downtown is highly-recommended.

Most travelers get here by train or bus. There are regular trains from Lisbon, as well as from other Portuguese cities. On the other hand, buses depart from Lisbon on almost an hourly schedule. Those who are traveling with car rental in Setubal Downtown must take a longer route by road. This journey should take around 80 minutes via N253 and A2.
