Very cheap, good car, somewhat near the airport...

We were visiting friends in Wellington, New Zealand and used 121, who arranged a rental voucher for 'Ace Rentals', a local firm. We got a very reasonable 2006 Nissan with about 80'000 miles on the clock which I am told is good for New Zealand. The only problem was the location, a good 15 minute drive from the airport, but there was a free shuttle so for the money we could not really complain. The car was well maintained and clean, and the staff very nice. I would definitely not call this 'Airport' rental though.

The only thing I didn't like was:- The original website offered excess cover insurance at 50% off. What it did not say was that this insurance was for use in Europe only and I had to pay Questor an additional sum to get cover for Australia...Make the web pages more honest !!! Otherwise the booking, the car, the pick up and the drop off was absolutely brilliant!!!!!

Easy to use site. Only drawback is that you don't know who you are booking with until you have committed. You can always cancel, though if it doesn't suit. For instance, I wasn't aware that the firm selected was off airport until I received the confirmation. Didn't bother me, and the shuttle service was excellent.

Booking was smooth, car worked fine, price OK

I picked this car up from National in Melbourne, drove to Philip Island and Dandenongs and back, on a few dirt roads too, the car (a Holden) went well, OK on fuel, it was cheapest deal I could find, and the site gave me a few options from different companies, with details of the cars and the extras, what's not included and so on. It all went smoothly. The staff were a bit busy and abrupt but no probs when I brought it back.

Wellington Airport is one of New Zealand's busiest air gateways and deals with over five million passengers annually. The airport is the main arrival point for the country's capital of Wellington and the southwestern part of the North Island. Wellington Airport is in Rongotai District, eight kilometers from Wellington downtown.

The proximity of the two enables car rental in Wellington Airport drivers to reach the city quickly by taking State Highway 1 through Mount Victoria Tunnel. National and regional carriers fly to Wellington Airport from numerous domestic locations, eastern Australia and Fiji. In the airport's single passenger terminal the Arrivals area is on the lower floor, while check-in is on the upper.

Five car hire in Wellington Airport maintain service booths on the lower level near the baggage reclaim carousels. The airport's large retail area is on the first floor, overlooking the runway, and contains shops selling toiletries, souvenirs, clothing, local jewelry, lambskin items and pure wool sweaters.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
